CIRT Hosts ICEMA Delegation for Technical Interaction on Construction Equipment Homologation and Cybersecurity Compliance

On 26 October 2026, CIRT Pune hosted a delegation from the Indian Construction Equipment Manufacturers Association (ICEMA) for technical sessions and laboratory visits on AIS-160 homologation and cybersecurity compliance.

Pune, 26 October 2026: Central Institute of Road Transport (CIRT), Pune, hosted a delegation from the Indian Construction Equipment Manufacturers Association (ICEMA) for a day-long programme of technical interaction, laboratory visits and regulatory compliance awareness. The programme presented CIRT's testing infrastructure, type approval and homologation services, and cybersecurity compliance support for the construction equipment sector.

Mr. Farukh S. Makhdoom, Head – Automotive Cybersecurity & MDC, CIRT, welcomed the delegation. The Director, CIRT, felicitated the ICEMA dignitaries and delivered the inaugural keynote address. Mr. Dimitrov Krishnan, Managing Director, Volvo CE Ltd, and Convener, ICEMA, delivered the industry keynote.

Technical Sessions

• CIRT Overview: Mr. Farukh S. Makhdoom presented CIRT's six-decade journey, its divisions, accreditations and authorisations under Rules 124 and 126 of the Central Motor Vehicles Rules (CMVR).
• Testing & Laboratory Capabilities: Mr. Sanjay Salunkhe, Head – Automotive Testing Division, explained how CIRT's Crash, Structural Dynamics, Virtual Simulation, Tyre & Wheel Rim and Photometry Laboratories support AIS-160 compliance.
• Type Approval & Homologation: Dr. Mangesh Pathak, Head – Safety and Homologation Division, outlined the type approval process for construction equipment vehicles under AIS-160.
• Cybersecurity & Software Update Compliance: Mr. Makhdoom presented CIRT's Penetration Testing Lab and its role in supporting compliance with AIS-189 (CSMS), AIS-190 (SUMS) and the EU Cyber Resilience Act (CRA).
• EU CRA Interactive Session: Mr. Jagannath Tiwari addressed members' queries on the applicability and requirements of the EU CRA.

Laboratory Visits

The delegation toured CIRT's specialised testing laboratories and the Penetration Testing Lab, gaining first-hand exposure to the Institute's capabilities in testing, homologation, type approval and cybersecurity compliance.

Way Forward

Mr. K. V. Krishnamurthy, Technical Advisor, ICEMA, and Mr. Dimitrov Krishnan appreciated CIRT's technical infrastructure and service capabilities. ICEMA representatives encouraged member manufacturers to engage with CIRT for testing and certification of their models under AIS-160.

The visit strengthens CIRT's engagement with the construction equipment industry and reinforces its role as a single-window partner for AIS-160 homologation and emerging cybersecurity compliance requirements.
