Introduction
Safety & Homologation division was established in the year 2007-08. This division of CIRT deals with Certification and Homologation of Motor Vehicles as per Central Motor Vehicle 1989.. CIRT has extensive experience in certification of international and national brands for various buses and trucks. CIRT also undertakes the certification of E-rickshaws and 2-wheelers. CIRT is equipped with state-of–art CMVR testing facilities. Safety & Homologation division carries out the following main activities:
A. Homologation
The Safety & Homologation Division is engaged in Certification and Homologation of Motor Vehicles as per Central Motor Vehicle Rule no. 126. The activity was commenced by this division with the certification of international brand like M/s Volvo buses Pvt Ltd for its model B9R, fully built bus and national brand like M/s TATA Motors for their Model TATA LP 1512. This was followed by the type approval certification and other CMVR related testing of various vehicles of M/s Mahindra Trucks and buses Ltd, M/s Premier Automobiles, M/s Scania Buses India Ltd, M/s Corona Bus Manufacturers, M/s AMW Motors, TATA Marcopolo Motors Ltd, M/s Ashok Leyland Ltd etc. Presently, we are using the test track facility of VRDE, Ahmednagar. We have recently upgraded our CMVR Testing facilities by purchasing latest equipment required for test track related testing of vehicles.
B. Accreditation of Bus Body Builders
CIRT has been an active member in the implementation of the Accreditation system for Bus Body Builders in India. The former Head of Safety & Homologation Division, Mr D P Saste, personally has been an active member of the core group which has formulated guidelines, procedures and orders for the implementation of the system. This division has carried out Plant Audits of several bus body builders and bus manufacturers all over the country for award of Accreditation and issued certificates. This activity of this division has a sizeable contribution of revenue to CIRT.
C. Inspection of Buses
For several years this division is engaged in inspection of different types and categories of buses. Buses fueled with Diesel and CNG. Buses of standard, low floor, semi low floor and ultra low floor types. Buses of AC and non-AC types. Special purpose buses like school buses and ambulances have been inspected and reports are issued. For several years, TATA Motors have been our major client in this activity. Since 2006 we have undertaken the Product Audit and Third Party Inspection of their different class, type and categories of CNG and Diesel buses. We are also undertaking inspection of buses of STU’s, local transport corporations as well as private parties. This activity has also earned us a sizeable amount of revenue over the years.
D. Formulation of Standards and Bid Process Management
CIRT is an active member in the formulation of Automotive Industry Standards & Indian Standards. For several years, the Former Head of Safety & Homologation Division, Mr D P Saste, personally has been actively participating and contributing in the meetings of Central Motor Vehicle Rules –Technical Standing Committee (CMVR-TSC), Automotive Industry Standards Committee (AISC), Standing Committee on Emission Legislation (SCOE), Automotive Industry Standards (AIS), Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) & Transport Engineering Department (TED). This division had the conveynorship for number of Automotive Standards like AIS:110 for Run flat tyres, AIS:119 for sleeper coaches, AIS:63 for School bus code, conversion of AIS:044 of tyres to IS:15633, 36 & 27. Active contribution in Formulation of Bus Code- AIS:052 and its revisions. This division has been representing in meetings on behalf of CIRT at the MoRTH, MoHI&PE, MoUD and Govt of Maharashtra related to Road Transport. This division is instrumental in designing the Urban bus specification I & II and ITS related specifications for the bus industry.
E. Conformity of Production & Type Approval for Safety critical components
This division also undertakes the activity of Conformity of Production & Type Approval for safety critical components. This activity is also another major revenue earning activity.
F. Training
This Division is conducting Ministry sponsored programmes and other programmes related to Vehicle certification as per CMVR, Accreditation of Bus Body Builders and TA & COP. Established in 2008-09. The main activities carried out here are Homologation of Vehicles, Accreditation of Bus Body Builders, Inspection of buses and Formulation of Automotive Standards. S&H is engaged in Certification and Homologation of Motor Vehicles as per Central Motor Vehicle Rule no. 126. We have extensive experience for certification of international and national brands for various buses, Volvo and trucks. We are equipped with state-of –art CMVR testing facility and using the test track facility of VRDE, Ahmednagar.
